    67 front frame dimensions

    All,

I am restoring a 67 BB convertible that suffered a left front collision and repairs many years ago (about 30yrs). There are signs of straightening/correcting minor frame damage (particularly in the upper A-arm mounting surface). I want to have a frame shop verify the frames dimensions but don't think they will have measurements for the area in question.

Are measurements for the front suspension mount points available? (I have the Crash Book service pages for C2s but it doesn't provide those details)

Are the upper A-arm mount points suppose to be parallel to each other and/or to the bottom A-arm pivots?

The area in question is indicated by red lines on the attached photo.

    Thanks In advance
    Daniel

      Mr. Lavigne,

I searched several hour via google without success. I guess my search criteria isn't on target to get valid results.

Do you have any suggestions for search criteria?

      Thanks
      Daniel

I really don't have any other suggestions. I've never had to locate this type of info. Have you tried a well established frame shop (as in old) that may have well worn documentation? Some of those types throw nothing away. Of course, this assumes this info was available in the past.

Another possibility would be a junkyard of old Chevy Chevelle stuff. I would believe the front end geometry of a passenger car would be similiar..... at least it would be worth a look.

Logically, the mounting points on the frame would be parallel and any non parallel requirements would be done thru the design of the "A" arms. Just my humble opinion.

        Good Luck

A common problem with the frame is the front crossmember sags, drawing the upper control arm mounts together, particularly on the big blocks. The repair involves putting a ram between the upper control arm mounts and pushing them apart so you can get the camber within specs. That sounds like what may have been done in this area. I have a Tru Way frame book, I can fax you the specs if you want. Message me your fax number.

              Hi Daniel,
I may have the exact problem as you have described with your 67. My inside dimension is 26-1/8" and I this this is too small to allow for the A arm adjustment. Please advise me on how you were able to fix you frame.

              Thanks Greg

                    Greg,

The dimension you are trying to achieve is 26 3/8 between the upper control arm mounting brackets. Stewart Lowe (3422) from post #6 faxed me a copy of a frame sheet for 1963 -1965 Corvettes (this dimension is the same for 67). I had a very experienced frame man use the frame sheet information and modern frame machine to correct the issue.

                    Thanks

                      Hi Daniel,

Thanks for that dimension and I now have the Tru-Way chassis sheet so no need to send me any additional data unless you have found something along the way that would help me. My right side front Gage hole is out ( High ) by 3/8". The front frame height dimension of 14-3/8" is OK and the first body mount height is OK.
This maybe why the control arm supports are compressed by 1/4"
I need a frame shop to fix this alignment. Hope you are on the west coast and I can work with the shop that was able to fix yours.

                      Thanks again - Greg

                        Greg,

I am on the East coast. I would think someone on the TDB would be able to help you locate or has experience with a reputable company in your area to do the work needed.
