    1965 dash pads

I have a chance to purchase a set of used original dash pads for my 65. The downfall is that each one has a "dimple" in it like something was pressing up against it. The pads are not cracked at all and except for the dimple impression are very nice.

Anyone know if this dimple impression/depression can be removed or should I keep lookiong for a better set?

    Thanks in advance.

Hard to say Jim. Without seeing them it's hard to tell if the dimples are set in for good. Do you suspect they might snap out of it if set in the sun for a while ?

Try heating the area around the dimple with a heat gun and while they are warm/hot gently rub the dimple it may or may not work for you but worth a try I have used this on wrinkles and dimples on vinyl tops and seat covers while installing. you can also get the area hot and rub ice cubes on it that will sometimes shrink the dimples/wrinkles, good luck

I have had success removing them with a heat gun. Just be careful to not get it too hot.

          Jimmy,
I had a frustrating experience with a really nice original pad. It was a passenger side, it was the wrong color so I died it black after doing a lot of research and prep work. I had it sitting on the dinning room table for a couple of minutes and some how knocked if of the table on to a carpeted floor. That pad split all the way across the top and down one side.
A lot of the old pads are quite brittle and will crack and if somebody grabs the passenger side hand hold will crack. Check and see how rigid that pad is before going to the PIA job to install. I ended up with two Corvette America re-pops and aside from looking new I was happy with quality.
