Heater hose fittings - Painted or not??

Were the two heater hose fittings - one on intake and other on water pump - installed in Flint and therefore painted? Or were they added in STL and therefore unpainted? Oh, I'm asking for a '75 small block.

    Thanks,
    Tory

I may be answering my own question: My assembly manual shows a part number for the nipple on the intake, so it was added in STL = unpainted. I can't find any separate number for the water pump nipple, so am I to assume it was put on in Flint = painted?

Another thread mentioned that on 72's the WP nipple was painted. I wonder if that's true for '75?

The waterpump nipple was part of the engine assembly as delivered from the engine plants as of early in the 1971 model year. So, after that time the nipple usually has some engine paint on it. It is not entirely painted since some sort of mask must have been used but the portion of the nipple which is exposed after the hose is installed is mostly painted in most cases.

So, why was the waterpump heater hose nipple installed at the engine plants after early 1971 but the inlet manifold nipple installed at St. Louis right through at least the 1982 model year? I have no idea.

Just a thought Joe, and I don't know if it is true -- but if there was a different intake nipple for different accessories -- like maybe C60 -- then only St Louis would know which nipple to install.

The intake manifold nipple did vary for C-60 versus non-C-60 but only for 1975-79 Corvettes. And, I do not understand why this even occurred. Non C-60 used nipple GM #3838094 for the whole 1963-79 period. 1975-79 with C-60 (and, all 1980-82 which had standard air conditioning) used nipple GM #331967. The only difference I can see between these two pieces is that the former has a rounded-style hose barb and the latter has a tapered, ramp-style hose barb. Why this would make any difference for C-60 versus non C-60 I don't know.
