I can only find one of my 1953 ashtrays, but it has the AAC stamped in. It also has about 1/3 of an arc that seems to circle the AAC. I also have two NOS trays that I bought around 1973 that have AAC stamped in also.

This AAC must be the manufacturers ident. Anyone know who this is? They must of had the contract for ashtrays for decades. -Dan-

In addition to the AAC definition (which nobody has responded to yet), is there suppose to be a spring on the cover? There is provisions for one, but mine has no spring. So I will bump this back up. -Dan-

              Dan,

Sorry don't know the name of the company the AAC logo stands for. The AAC is on various parts for C1's.

Attached is a photo of an original '57 ashtray lid and spring courtesy of my friend Dave Smith's nice Bowtie '57.

Thanks Gary, Was just curious about the AAC designation. I guess nobody knows just what company it was, but it looks like they had the contract for many years. Looks like I have to start looking for a spring. -Dan-

                  Hey, Dan,

Suspect it will be easier to find a complete ash tray with spring installed than finding a spring alone. So small a spring that it would be hard to keep up with.

Could be wrong, but think I recall that the same, or very similar, ash tray was installed in the rear door/side panel arm rests of Chevy passenger cars in the '60s. Finding one that way could be easier if you know of any auto salvage yards that specialize in older vehicles. Also, check with Chevy restoration groups.

                  Larry

You might try installing a ball point pen spring; may not be strong enough, but it is quick, inexpensive, and easy to find.

I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread, but I have an interesting find I wanted to share. My barber has a Koken Comet barber chair set up in his garage. I've been going to him for 30+ years and never pais attention to the chair. I just realized that in the armrest of the barber chair is an ash tray just like in our C1 with the "AAC" on it with single snuffer. How funny is that. Attached are a couple of photos.
