    AC Fuel Pump Alpha Designation

    Can anyone tell me what the 2 digit alpha characters mean shown after stamped number is on a 4657 fuel pump. I've seen a couple of these, ex: 4657LD and 4657BF and I can't find anyone who knows what tese two characters stand for. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Ray,

    Date code.
    LD = Dec. 1964
    BF = Feb. 1966

    I started a thread about date codes on AC fuel pumps. I believe that these date codes started with the 1965 model year starting in the Fall of 1964. I have never seen the 2-letter date code on original 1964 or older AC fuel pumps.

      Thanks Dave. Can you help with a date code for my '65? Which was built in July of 1965?

        Ray,

        I would say a "4657 DE", "4657 EE", "4657 FE", or possibly even "4657 GE" (depending when in July your car was made) would be correct for your July 1965 car. I believe that the judging guides do not mention anything about date codes on fuel pumps but I am more interested on what parts were original equipment not what is printed a judging guide. I do not really care for "Swiss cheese".

        There are still a lot of NCRS members that do not believe fuel pumps were dated coded. I believe the reason is that they would have to spend more time and money looking for a correctly dated fuel pump.

        About 30 years ago I bought a compete 327 engine from a 1966 Chevrolet (block 3858180, casting date E136 or possibly E186, stamped "T0521HAR) with original 4BBL Rochester carb, starter, distributor, fuel pump, etc. The fuel pump was stamped "4657 EF" (May 1966).
