    265 Exhaust Manifold

Believe it or not my wife dug up an old SBC manifold in the pasture. It has these numbers 3836968 12 55. It is in surprisingly good shape. Was this ever used on Corvette?

Maybe you should keep digging in the pasture and see what is buried below the mainfold!

      Mark -

Yes - 2nd design RH side '55 exhaust manifold, also used on RH side on '56 passenger cars. From the date, it might have been used on a VERY late '55 Corvette.

NO-this manifold would not have been on a 55 corvette. corvette manifolds were only produced in flint and do not have date codes. this manifold has a date code. another way of telling a tonawanda part on a 1955 car is the use of the two digit year code 55. this manifold has a tonawanda date code.

Yes, this particular manifold was never originally installed on a Corvette. However, leaving aside the issue of date and foundry-of-origin, this casting number manifold was used on 1955 Corvettes and 1956 passenger cars. I'll bet that by now this manifold is quite rare and difficult-to-find. This would be especially true since if I recall correctly, this manifold was weak in certain areas and cracked. So, if I was the owner of a 1955 Corvette and I needed a correctly configured right side exhaust manifold, I think I'd be thrilled to come by this one.

Of course, if one were a 1955 Corvette owner needing this manifold, one might be hard-pressed to win it on an auction. I expect guys restoring 1956 Chevrolet passenger cars (maybe a 1956 convertible?) might be "more aggressive" in the bidding.

As far as I know, this manifold is not reproduced and I kind of expect it won't be. But, you never know.

the manifolds are easy to come by and shipping will some times be more than the price of the manifold. what you want to see on these manifolds is a tombstone heat riser. the heat riser is a expensive item.

Yes, I checked on eBay and there are some for pretty reasonable prices. It surprises me.

mark, there is a letter in front of the 1255 which will tell me what month this manifold was made. can you let me know what that letter is. date codes always have a letter for the month, followed by the day and year. if you do not see one let me know if the 1 is actually a I.

thank you, the date code,(september 2 1955), on your manifold helps me determine when i might see a transition from the #3704792 manifold. your manifold is the earliest 3836968 that i have recorded.
