    tach cable grommet installation

Is there any way to insert a new tach cable through a new firewall grommet. Was wondering if possible to heat up the grommet, then use a sleeve of some sort to push it into the hole on the 4 hole replacement grommets. When I installed a new cable 20 years ago, I slit the grommet to fit over cable, hoping to avoid that!

      Rich,

I've used this tool from Long Island Corvette Supply

      http://www.licorvette.com/grommets_f...20Corvette.htm

I used a little electric conduit lube on it first and it went through pretty easily without cutting the grommet. Just make sure the grommet is installed in the firewall first. It helps to have someone on the other side of the firewall to insure you don't poke the whole grommet out of its hole while pushing on the tach cable. Works for speedo too.
