    Corvette Order Copy (Tank Sheet)

Is there any correlation between the vehicle (VIN) or actual build date and the identification number, date received, expiration date of production or order number as shown on the tank sheet?
I would like to use the information listed above to narrow down the possibility of using (another car) Order Copy sheet to fabricate a car with those particular options.
For example, if a late build May 1967 (around 19,xxx) is there a correlation by identification number to give a timeline to identification number or order number?
Trim tag is consistant with late May build. It's the options I wish to verify to be factory installed.
Bottom line, can I use the tank sheet to narrow chance of being fabricated? I have verified that the delivering dealer does not currently exist (out of business). Title searches are a dead end.
I do have the tank sticker which has been provided by the current seller so I would like to use this as the basis to check timeline of tank sheet information and whether to proceed with purchase.

Re: Corvette Order Copy (Tank Sheet)

That's a very interesting question. My '67 was built Feb.14, as per the NCRS dealer data, the body build date was Feb. 14 (St.Louis), and per my tank sticker, order was received 1-23-67, Exp. Date of Prod. was 2-17-67, and has printed on the bottom, "PLS RUSH". I don't know if the Ident. Number, Order Number, or the penciled in 3 digit number with a circle around it on the right side relates to anything about dates. I do know my Ident. No. is the same on the tank sticker as the upper right hand number on the window sticker, but not sure how that relates to anything else. I guess in my case, the dates are all in a very tight range, but not sure all would be. Hope some other observations or info comes to light here.

There's a loose correlation between the "Ident Number" (which was assigned by the plant when the order was accepted for production) and the "Order Received" date, although they don't increment exactly by unit with time. I only have Ident Numbers through the middle of May (24,026 at that time), and only 22,940 67's were built.

Re: Corvette Order Copy (Tank Sheet)

Maybe this helps: Trim tag is J26 (May26)
        Order copy is in pieces but: ID# 819128, order# 60252, rec'd date 4/5/67, exp date 6/2/67.
Can the 3 digit # circled in body of order copy be used to approximate the actual vin? If so, please state an example. Thanks for prior replies.

As John stated; The Ident No. was assigned when the order for a car was processed. This number tied all the documentation for a car together.
The Order Number was a Preprinted number on the Purchase order the dealer filled out to purchase a car.
The 3 digit "penciled" number was typically 1 or 2 numbers ahead of the final vin number (in 67) and repeated every 500 numbers. (Other yrs had different spacings)
Example: 3 digit number 123 could have had a vin number ending in 124-125 OR 624-625.

Have no idea why the 1-2 number discrepancy....vs actual vin.

Expected date of Production was a "forecast date" for planning purposes. During '67 this date was nearly always a Friday.

At the yr date turnover, '66 to '67, many Dealer order copy's had Dates of 01-XX-66. This was a typo....

            ....
That really fits mine, a penciled in and circled number of "212" and my VIN is 714. Thanks for that bit of info.

John....My Identification # on my tank sticker is not legible, with the data you have can you approximate what my # would be. the first 3 numbers are 804 but cannot read the rest. The date received id 10-3-66. My car was built Nov 2, 1966 with the last 4 of the Vin is 2812. Can you help with what the rest of the Ident Number might be?

All, My car was built on March 30, 1967. The tank sticker has a handwritten "164" and is underlined (not circled) in pencil and my VIN ends in "166".

The penciled in number that is handwritten usually in the upper right portion of the description area is the body job # that the factory used on the line. It has no relationship to the Vin#. The numbers went from 1-500 and than started over again. That is also shown with photo's in the 63-67 Noland Adams Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide Vol 2 literature.
