I have an '83 S-10 Blazer 4WD, 2.8, 5-speed. I have heard a lot of these early small bearing engines had crankshaft breaking issues. I guess I am lucky, especially considering the hard life the car had before I got it. I now has 320,000 and has not been rebuilt. Still holds good oil pressure and uses a quart of oil every 2000 miles (better than my '02 Z06). May not be peppy, but has been super reliable; my everyday vehicle.

I have an 85 S-10 Blazer that I bought new with the 2.8 Weighing almost 4000 pounds the little engine is kind of a dog, but is reliable. I use it for plowing my rental properties in the winter and as my tool hauler when I do maintenance on the properties
