Run Flats Or Non Run Flats?

I have a 2000 with the original run flat tires, do I need to replace with run flats or can I go ahead and purchase a non run flat tire. Thinking about buying the Michelin Pilot Sports A/S Plus......
The person at Tire Discounters said I should stay with the run flats, since
this will efect the suspension if I change to a non run flat tire........

True...... But a lot of owners buy non-runflats and carry a pump and repair kit.

Re: Run Flats Or Non Run Flats?

Non Run Flats will not change suspension at all on any C5

Non run flats will provide a smooth (better) ride vs rf's

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on wifes '98 and they are a great tire. Much Much better than the stock Goodyears.

Search the other forum in the C5 section and you find lots of threads on RF vs Non RF

If you go with non RF's buy a small 12v compresser to have in the case of emergency.

After a blow out at 90+ mph on the Fla. Tpike on my 09 ZO6, I will never replace them with non run flats. I traveled another 105 miles at 65mph with no steering difficulty. I replaced with Gen II Goodyear Eagle F1s. Awesome tires. I try to keep $$ down since south florida shell based road cover only gives us 8k 10k on soft rubber.

a lot of corvette owners run firestone RF tires on their corvettes and are pleased with them. they are also cheaper that any one else's RF. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....wk+SZ50+EP+RFT

After two sets of Goodyear Supercar RF (full disclosure: Gen1) I went to Michelin ZP (Zero Pressure) and I am very pleased. These are not the most economical solution, but a trip on the Pennsy Pike in the rain on worn out GYs convinced me a good tire is priceless.

I have an 04 Z06 and wish I could find run flats to fit it. Just for the security.

Re: Run Flats Or Non Run Flats?

According to Tadge Juechter when he spoke in Novi, the difference in building a sidewall for a runflat vs non-runflat Corvette tire using today's technology is so small that it really no longer makes sense for the manufacturers to make them in non-runflat styles. This is different than it was 10-15 years ago. So, I would be inclined to find a newer generation runflat and go with it. I would not have said that 10 years ago.

FYI, I like the ride with the Goodyear Supercar tires on my 2008 better than the OEM Goodyears on Dad's 2002 when it comes to some road irregularities and bumps. Even in those 6 years the tires improved quite a bit.

I wish we would have had this discussion in Novi. You could have road tested the Michelins.

I'm thinking of Michelins anyway when my original tires are due for replacement. The plan is to remove the original wheels + tires and replace both as you did. I'm just going to use mine up first.

I had no trouble using up my Goodyears. 2 and 1/2 sets in three 1/2 years and 30K miles, and that doesn't count the first 1K on the factory tires because that change was my call. No regrets and many miles of smiles.

Pleased with the Michelin Pilot Sports (non run-flat) tires on my C5. MUCH QUIETER than the stock run-flat tires. I do carry a small compressor and a tire plug kit.
