Help! 1966 under dash wiring question

    Whats this plug for?

I had to replace the heater core in my 1966 AC coupe (Oh joy! - Not...). Over the past two weeks of rebuilding the heater box and reinstalling I've forgotten what this plug goes to. Is it the blower motor?

I suspect I may have pinned the male end of the plug between the heater box and firewall - or I've just "hidden" it somewhere I can't see it...

Anybody have a decent wiring diagram?

Dan - The connector looks like the one that plugs into the back of cable assembly for the blower motor speed switch and air inlet. Pete

Re: Help! 1966 under dash wiring question

I just found a post on Corvette Forum that states this plug isn't used on AC cars and was just tucked-up out of the way. Anyone confirm this?

      Thanks!
      Dan

It goes to the three prong connector protruding from your heater box inside the passenger compartment, but facing the firewall (the wire wound resistors are inside the heater box and control the blower speeds). The connector is dipicted in the upper center of the attached schematic (or-orange y-yellow lbl-light blue).

OK, here is the schematic for a 66 - Sorry, still getting the hang of uploading attachments (my previous attempt was too large a file size).

Thanks, Ronald. I just had the heater box apart, and there are no electronics in it. the Heater motor is mounted to the firewall and works just fine without the plug.

I'm going on the assumption that this plug is blank, or isn't used on AC cars. I'd like somebody to confirm this if possible.

            Thanks,
            Dan

Bump - any insights? is this plug an orphan on AC cars?

              Thanks

Dan, I have my non AC 66 heater box out right now and there is a 3 prong resistor on the back side of the interior half of the heater box. Here is a pic from the Long Island web site..

                  Joe-

Thanks for the picture. My AC heater box does not have those plug prongs. The "mystery" connector I refer to is the 3-wire, inline plug shown above...

                    Dan -

There are no resistors on the inside box on an A/C midyear; the blower resistor on an A/C car is on the top of the engine-side evaporator box, next to the high blower relay.

That connector is for the heater resistor on a non-A/C car, which was supposed to be cut off, and the three wires taped out of the way (see your Assembly Manual, section C60, sheet E8, item 2B); they hardly ever actually cut the connector off - they just taped it back out of the way to the harness.

John, as always, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Now back to my yoga lesson so I can be limber enough to complete the reinstall...

Dan we want a picture of you holding the inside part up in place and at the same time putting the cover on the under-hood side, pal nuts included, now that an acrobatic job.
