'65-'66 teak wheel question for '67

    Hello Everyone,

I know the '65-'66 teak wheel was never an option for the '67 model year, but I'm thinking of installing one on my '67 coupe as I love the look. I'm guessing it will fit just like the standard '67 wheel without any adapters etc, but want to be 100% sure.

    Thanks for the help.

Not exactly. 67 has off set spokes.

Get a 67 plastic core and send it in to have a repo teak made from it.

Most of the repro Teak wheels will come with a small spacer/adapter for a 67. I bought a Freeman wheel and it came with the spacer/adapter.

I purchased an Eric Freeman teak wheel back in the old Bloomington days.Mounted it in my '67 for driver use. Love it. It came with the little spoke spacer to mount. Looks great with the black interior, also saves the real '67 wheel for judging.............Paul

Another option is to use a '69-'75 core, the spokes will fit (bottom spoke is under two side spokes as the 16" '67) and in addition the wheel is 15" in dia. rather than 16" and the dish is shallower thus providing more room for the driver behind the wheel.Just a thought as another option.Once mounted on the car the difference in dia. and dish is barely noticeable.
            Regards Doug

It'll work fine, but you'll need the spacer piece to fill in the resulting gap between the wheel and the hub at the lower spoke location (the bottom two screws go through it); photo below shows the spacer piece that Eric Freeman makes to use a '65-'66 wheel on a '67 hub.

John, what exactly does the spacer do? Does it keep the steering wheel from being "crooked", meaning it would otherwise stick out more on one side than the other? If that makes sense.

                      Larry -

The hub on a '67 has a clearance recess in the casting the width and depth of the lower spoke due to the double-thickness of the lower spoke at the hub surface. The '63-'66 wheels had a one-piece single-thickness core, and the hub surface was flat. The '65-66 wheel will sit flat on the '67 hub, but will have a gap between the bottom of the lower spoke and the recess in the hub that needs to be filled with the spacer piece, as the lower two of the six wheel-to-hub attaching screws go through it.
