C3 Steering Columns
What are the differences between the 69 to 82 columns? How can you tell what column goes with what year?

1969 through 1976 columns will directly interchange. The 1976 column is identical but the steering wheel, telescope lock, and horn cap are unique for that one year only. There is a lever on the lower end of the steering column that connects to the steering column/transmission interlock cable (69-76).
1977 will actually interchange back through 1969. This steering column is slightly shorter moving the steering wheel away from the driver by 1 - 2 inches. It also has the windshield wash/wipe switch on the turn signal lever (one year only). It is the first year for the headlamp dimmer switch on the column. The lower lever on the steering column was eliminated and a small lever added near the ignition key that you must trip in order to rotate your key to OFF-LOCK and remove it from the lock cylinder.
1978-82 is very similar to 1977 except the windshield wash/wipe switch was removed from the column and placed in the dash again. These steering columns can be fairly easily modified to adapt to the 1969-76 Corvettes.

I assume that you are going to install a tilt & telescoping steering column. Here is a paper on adapting the 77-82 leather wrapped steering wheel, telescope lock, extension, and horn cap to the 1976 and earlier T&T steering columns.
