Can anyone confirm the exact routing for 66 L72 positive battery cable / speedo cable / solinoid harness routing?? Also were all of the firewall clips riveted to the firewall?? For 66 427 the AIM (UPC 12 page A6) shows the positive cable clearly routed from the + post thru a plastic clip on the side of the batt heat shield to the starter. Further in the AIM - for L72 spec hi perf (UPC L72 page D6) it shows the same + cable routed from the + to a clip on the firewall (just level with the furthest pass side bellhousing bolt) then to the starter - so apparently the heat shield was not used to locate the + cable for the L72. The judging manual references small block routing thru the heatshield clip but makes no mention that I could find re big block routing. In addition - I beleive the speedo cable and the solinoid harness shared the same firewall clip which is located higher up from the + batt firewall clip approximately center or the passenger side rear cylinder head. Do you agree with the above routing interpretation and is this a well known re judging criteria? My BB has this wiring set up and I am curious if it is correct.

The BB battery cable clip in View "A", L72, sheet D6, is attached with a pop-rivet. The 4-speed speedo cable clip, also pop-riveted, is shown in section M20, sheet A4. The clip on the lower heater blower housing stud (UPC 12, sheet A9, item #22) is only for the starter harness.- Top

Re: 66 427 L72 + Battery Cable Routing
The speedo cable clip/retainer on my 66 appears to be attached with a steel rivet.
The battery cable clip is attached with a pop rivet. Difficult to see though.
As John H mentioned, the starter solenoid wires run through their own clip that attaches to a lower heater case stud.Last edited by Michael H.; July 29, 2011, 04:09 PM.- Top

Re: 66 427 L72 + Battery Cable Routing
John,
The upper looks to be solid and pulled through from the inside where the lower looks like more of a pop rivet pulled from the outside and consistent with that Michael is saying above. The cables/clips have sagged with time and aren't exactly in the AIM defined locations.- Top
