    1966 350hp choke rod

Hi I have a 1966 350hp I need a choke rod for. I have ordered one from Corvette America, Zips corvette and Long Island Corvette and they are all wrong. They are to long at about 4.25" long and they won't even hook up to the carb. The Judging Guide says it should be 3.36" long with a GM number of 3881888. Anyone know where I can get one? Thanks for your help Terry

    Terry,
Rebend and shorten the repop link. Mark the new bend. Easy with a hammer on the vice to form new 90 degree bend and cut off excess with hack saw. File the burrs and check fit.

GM #3881888 was discontinued in July, 1968 and replaced by GM #3917616. Unfortunately, the 3917616 was discontinued without supercession in March, 1997. So, you'd be 14 years too late even for that one.

In general, I have found the reproduction choke rods available from Dr. Rebuild to be accurate reproductions.

            Terry,

Which choke rod do you need?
My 1966 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1965) does not list any rods in Gr. 3.752 for the 1966 Corvette w/SHP 327 but my 1967 Corvette Chevrolet Parts Catalog (April 1967) does list the following:

            carb. choke ROD # 3881440 (measures about 2.72" O.L.) in Gr. 3.752

auto. choke ROD # 3881888 (assumed to be 3.36") in Gr. 3.752

Do you have a "3906631" Holley carb?

Hi, The carb. was missing when I got the car and this carb is what I have. 3884505 list 3367 date 022 and the choke linkage 3881888 is the number I got out of the Judging Guide and I am working on cutting down the linkage I have, but I am in Arizona and it won't get below 80 for a few months yet. Thanks for your help

                Terry,

My mistake, I was thinking you had a 1967 which used a 3906631 carb.

The 3884505 (LIST 3367) carb is the correct one for a 1966 w/327 (300 HP & 350 HP) but the date "022" seems a bit strange. Is there another digit after the "022"?

The production carbs were dated with 3 numbers.
                Example: "613" = 1966, January, 3rd week

Your "022" date code might be 1970, February, 2nd week but I always thought that the replacement carbs were dated with a Julian date code.
                Example: "022 0" = 22nd day of 1970 or Jan. 22, 1970.

Anyway, the 1966 Corvette w/SHP 327 w/3884505 Holley carb used a 3881440 carburetor choke rod as well as a 3881888 auto. choke rod.

If I can find my 3884505 Holley carb (which is stored in a box somewhere in my garage attic) I will check out the two rods.

                Dave

                  Dave -

That's correct, but not until after 1972; prior to that, they used the 3-digit year/month/week format.
