anyone know what this wire is for?

I am completing a frame off restoration on my 72 LT-1 convertible and have a wire that was cut by the previous owner and would love to know where it goes. The wire is coming through the rubber grommet on the underside, just before the gas tank. The other wires coming out the grommet are the tail light harness and the antenna wire. Here is a photo of the wire. Thanks all, Duff

Hi Duff,
Is there any chance that it's part of the alarm wiring which would be coming out of the rear harness in that area?
Have you tied to traced it on the interior side of the grommet?

If it's a shielded cable it could be an old CB antenna wire.

Have you checked the wiring installation instructions in the Assembly Manual? I seem to have misplaced my '72 version right now..

Duff, for information purposes, If its the alarm wires, The color for the alarm horn mounted on the rear splash panel, Pink is the power, and black is ground.

Ed, isn't there a hot wire to the alarm switch and a return wire. I think I know the color, but the last time I mentioned a wire color I was wrong, so I will leave that to the OP to research.

I did not check the interior side of the mysterious wire, that would be the easiest and best way to help determine where this wire should connect. Thanks all, Duff

Hi Duff,
I think Ken is on the right track. It does look like a small shielded cable.
I also now see the cable is passing through the fiberglass hole NEXT to the grommet, not through one of the grommet holes. That seems to indicate a dealer/owner option too.

Terry, Yes the key switch wire is orange.
