I've gone through the AIM for my 1960 looking for part number references to the various cements, sealers, and compounds used throughout. The attached PDF document listed all by the referenced part number from the AIM and the AIM section and sheet number for where I found them and what they were used for.
Some are fairly obvious, but I am trying to figure out the modern equivalents, or what I should use as I put my 1960 back together. I would greatly appreciate an insight from those of you who have done these restoration for much longer than me, as this is my first.
Some of the most obvious ones are:
3711175 Plastic Adhesive Cement - panel adhesive of which there are a number to choose from today
369016 Cement. This is contact cement
Some of the others have me confused unless GM used different part numbers for essentially the same cement/compound. For example:
3710409 Compound, 466943 Cement, and 3736295 Compound - These all seem to be in areas where dumb-dumb (strip caulk) would have been used. Did GM use the same part number for the same cement/compound in difference sections?
3686628 Compound - The Spring 2011 Restorer article had what I believe is a modern equivalent for this one.
3709786 Cement - Don't have a clue on this one.
Again, does anyone have modern equivalents for all of the part numbers?
Thanks,
