    1960 exhaust outlets

How should the exhaust outlet pipe be oriented in the bumper? Should the end be inside the bumper, flush with the bumper or stick out? If they stick out, how much?

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Tom -

I set mine so they're about 3/8" rearward of the edge of the bumper (cold) so the dirty condensate drips on the ground instead of inside the bumper (where it will eventually corrode/eat through the bumper).

      Thanks John.

My pass side is sticking out about 1/2" while the dr side is out 3/4". I don't have any more "slack" in the pipes, so I may have to do some t*******. 3/8" sounds like a good number to shoot for.

      Thanks,

      Tom

        Tom,
I used a set from Corvette Central and the best I could get is about 1/2 inch without cutting them off. That was with a little tapping to get them to seat as far as possible. I think that originally they had them flush but that is as John said real hard on the bumpers.

SOMETIMES, what is factory correct (in this case, even with the bumper), and what is truly more practical as well as an improvement, needs to be given more consideration as opposed to what NCRS accepts as gospel and factory correct.
Again as John pointed out, if the end of the pipe is even with, or slightly inside the bumper opening, you are eventually going to have a corroded/damaged bumper.
Soooooooooooooooo, which is the better alternative? A couple of point deductions--------------------or a messed up bumper?

            Tom,

I'm not worried about judging with this car, so they will stick out a bit. The original bumpers are still on the car and you can see the corrosion on the inside as well as around the lip of the outlet area. I don't want to contribute anymore to this so I'm going to shoot for the 3/8"-ish overhang.

The further they stick out, the more of a knee slicer they are when you're walkin' around in a dark, crowded garage in the dark with shorts on. (sound like the voice of experience?)
