    Re: 1964 PCV valve location

    Timothy,
    Well we are off the initial subject a bit, but the different crimps in the exhaut manifold tube for the choke circuit is very interesting. In preparing my 64 300HP for the PV I found it a bit challenging to get the idle down to 600 RPM. The carb was fully rebuilt and rebushed during the restoration but I still had to play with things quite a bit before I could get there. I thought a lot about the size of the hole in the (aftermarket) PCV restrictor but did not give much thought to the choke circuit since I was using the factory mainifolds. Now I'm going to have to take a look at that! You never know what's going to come out of these threads, thats what makes them fun.

      And for those interested, look at the picture of an early 64 with a 7017375R FI unit on page 279 of the Noland Adams book.

      Other than some misc 64 items, the engine looks just about exactly like a 63, including the vacuum advance system.

        Michael;

        Have not gotten to Saint Cloud as yet for the non-ethanol fill up. The road (Narcoossee) is still under construction between me and them. Truth is I haven't had the Vette out in a while. What with the heat and all, my best time for a run is Sunday am's, and the're not open then.

        Still waiting on parts for my 3461S that I'm setting up for the good gas too.

        Tim;

        My 3461S has the holes under the air valve too.

          I believe these early '64s with the 375R unit also used '63 distributors. The early L-76s may have also used '63 distributors.

          Does anyone know the difference between a 375 and 375R. Was it just different specs for the power/economy stops?

            Duke,

            I don't remember for sure on the distributor/vacuum advance but I thought they had a new part number to be used with the 375R. I'll look.

            Yes, the lean/rich stop settings changed because of the new 346 cam for 64. There may have been a change for the enrichment diaphragm spring too but I don't remember. I think everything else was the same as 375.

              Jeff, Michael and Stu,

              I can report my experence with the choke hot air restriction in that holding my finger over the clean air tube the motor slows further than blocking the pcv valve.

              I am sorry I changed the subject of this post..

                Duke,

                We may need some assistance from someone that has a 1964 printing of the parts book.

                I looked at a 1966 printing but I didn't learn much. I think most of the unique items for a 7017375R FI unit were removed/replaced prior to 1966.

                I think the vacuum advance unit for a 7017375R is a 236 though, the same as that used for all 7017380 FI's.

                I have to wonder what the part numbers are for the advance weights and springs and the entire distributor assembly. Is the distributor an 1111064 ??
