    bike rack

My son and I wanted to do RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa - 7 days, roughly 500 miles by bicycle) and decided to drive an ol' vette, but had to come up with a way to transport the bikes. Did you know you can't buy a bike rack for a 63 Vette and a Gay Nineties high-wheel bicycle? Thankfully, my dad took the liberty to make one. So if you see us somewhere between Phoenix and Iowa, make sure you say "Hi!". You may not have another chance to see something like this again.

Remember when we used to drive our Corvettes?

Doug - you may want to keep that high wheel on the back of the corvette when you get to the Missouri river. I'd personally would drive the corvette across IA. I did RAGBRAI last yr and used all of my 30 gears (especially on the 13% grade hill on final day) before reaching the Mississippi river. Good luck on the ride.

That's a fairly fresh rebuild on an original motor 340 HP - it'll carry the bike...function as a river barge is unproven.......

By coincidence saw the RAGBAI on TV yesterday on the Documentary Channel. Seemed as much partying as riding, and each equally hard.

On last year's ride, there were beer gardens in many of the towns along the route and they were always well stocked. I think the big picture plan is for the beer to be returned to mother earth in corn fields along the route, thus producing great yellow corn.

Being in my mid 60's and some experience under my belt, I didn't come close to partying as hard as the younger crowd as I knew there was going to be another 60-80 miles of riding the next day. But, I also know you need to "carb up" each evening for the next day and what better way to do so than to have a couple of cool ones.
