Parts books only show one pan for 427 Corvette, 1968 and 1971 printings, Part number 3872429. Current service replacement pans may not carry the same appearance, so it would be good to look a a couple of original cars to make sure you are seeing what you need (Pictures help also) Should be lots of examples to choose from in Detroit.

And the originals had a center bolt on the front end and that bolt was a 'little' different than the others.

Michael, not sure but I know where some originals are if you are in Novi this week they are close by.

My 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (April 1967) also lists GM # 3872429 as the oil pan for 65-67 Corvettes (396,427). My 1965 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (May 1965) lists the 3872429 oil pan for the 65 Corvette (396).

According to this Chev Service News report, the bolt was deleted in production with the introduction of the new seal on 12-21-66. I believe the (unused) bolt hole in the pan continued for some time in the '67 model year (the '67 TIM&JG should specify). I have a big capacity oil pan (with corner bolts reinforcements, etc.) that has NO bolt hole on the front gasket lip. This may be a '68 or later pan; experts of those years should know.

Seems the pan part # continued the same; probably eliminating the hole was considered a minor revision.

The #3872429 oil pan was utilized from 1965 thru 1968 for 396 / 427 engine applications. A new part #3955106 appeared in the catalogs for 1969 427 engines.
