    1972 LT-1 1st one built ?

Is there any information available on the cars VIN numbers as they rolled the assembly line ? I have an early 1972 LT-1 convertible built on August 17th (3rd week of production) and wonders if it could be within the first ones built ? Or better could it be the first one built ?

A no option car with 3.70 gears, built sheet still indicating 1971 HP ratings and some left over 71 parts on the car.

Thanks to all for the help, Mk

I'm not familiar with the actual data on what date the '72 model year began production. I always thought the previous year production went to the end of July, they took off a couple of weeks to re-tool/prepare for the upcoming model year, and then start in the middle of August on the new model year. I would have guessed that, for the '72 model year, production began on August 16, 1971, which would put your car even closer to the beginning of production. Someone here will set me straight and hopefully be able to answer your question as well!

      Randy,

Most probably I got it wrong stating it was built on August 17th. My mistake !! Car is # 278 with a build date of A17. I'm still confised if it's built on the 17th day of production or on August the 17th which like you mentionned would put close to the production start. In any case it's the 278th 1972 Corvette they built.

Curious to get info of all the similar surviving cars if it could be the earliest produced...

Thanks for helping me on this one, Marc

Given the number of LT-1's in 1972 (6.4%) there should have been about 15 prior to yours. Just a guess, of course.

          Hi Marc,

I own #85 which I believe was built on the 1st day of production. Perhaps we could correspond to compare options/notes/parts etc.

          Regards,

          Billy

My limited notes show that 165 and 269 are reported as LT-1s.
