    57 Seats

    I am working on my seats. You might say that if the seats are up near the top of the pile, then the end is not far off. That would be nice, I have a couple of questions;

    1. The inside edges of the seat frames are covered with 2" wide black tape, and 1-1/2 brown tape. It is not vinyl electrical tape, more like the old friction cloth tape. Does anyone know what this stuff is and where it can be had?

    2. The bottom of the seat backs are held to the frames with what I believe is 1/4" hardware - one on each side. But there must be a clamp of some type holding them in place. Does anyone know how the fastening is done? This must have escaped my photo session when I took them apart.

    Thanks for your support. -Dan-

    Re: 57 Seats

    Dan,

    I don't know if tape was used.

    The top of the seat back frame is held in by hooking the 2 wire frame protrusions to the edges of the horizontal upper seat frame. The bottom of the seat backs are held down by 2 thin sheet metal strips welded to the lower horizontal frame. They bend over the lower wire "U" shaped extensions on the seat backs.

    I don't have any pictures sorry. Maybe someone else does.

      Thanks Rich. So they bend over to capture - that is probably why I did not photo them. The hole in the tab had me confused.

      Now all I need is to solve this tape problem. If someone taped mine, then it was done early in its life. -Dan-

        i seem to recall one of my c-1 restorations involved friction tape-type material over the edges of the seats, a proceedure that may help lessen the liklihood of the vinyl tearing in this location. since the tape isn't seen once the covers are installed, go ahead and tape yours. can't hurt anything. mike
