    Door Interior Questions

R&Ring the doors and have a couple of questions:

Was the fabric sleeve on the door pull rod installed prior to paint or after?

When was the door pull mechanism area and window crank area shot with a small amount of blackout? I've been told it was at some point during the process.

Does anyone have a photo(s) of an original door with panel pulled etc.?

Is there a reason why on '66 the window access was not covered with something like I understand the earlier cars were (like '63-'64)?

    Thanks in advance
    Rob

    Rob,

We know that the door lock/latch assembly was installed before any prime/paint operations and we see body color on the door latch release (control) so we know the connecting rod and cover had to also be in place before the prime/paint.

The regulator, channels and glass was not installed at that point so that would tell us that the access panel could not have been installed before prime/paint.

      Re: Door Interior Questions

      Thanks Michael,

My car has body color on the door release/control assembly and some on the cloth sleeve. The window regulator does not.

However, I was wondering if 1) was there some blackout shot onto the door release/control prior to vapor barrier installation? and the window crank mechanism?

      2) Was there anything covering the window regulator opening beyond the vapor barrier on '66?

      Thanks again
      Rob

        Rob,

Body color is common on the door release/control, especially on the front portion of the shaft section that the chrome ball is attached to. This is usually a result of the shot of body color on the front of the door. The blackout process normally comes from further aft and covers the top and back side of the shaft.
The blackout shot was supposed to cover the entire visible portion of the control but rarely did so.

Originally, I think there was a metal panel that was attached to cover the rectangular opening in the inner door structure but it was eventually elininated, if I remember correctly. I don't remember when that occured though.

          Michael,

Perfect, your memory is "jiving" with what I've heard and learned. From the various vendor catalogs (and my car) I am assuming that the window regulator cover plate was eliminated in '65 or '66 to save a few pennies. My car has no evidence of one. Just the vapor barrier.

Do you remember if the window crank mechanism also got a shot of blackout as well?

          Cheers
          Rob

            Rob,

I don't think the window regulator assembly was installed before any paint operations so it probably wouldn't have any primer, body color or blackout on it.
