    Replacement Wheels for 64

I am looking for driver replacement steel wheels for my 64. Coker is selling a 15 X 5 OE wheel for drum brake cars. Will these work? Original 63/64 wheels were 15 x 5.5 correct? Any help appreciated.

    Jace,

I believe the standard steel wheel was 15 x 5" for 1963-1966, the knock-off wheels were 15 x 5.5", and in 1967 both the standard Rally wheels and the optional bolt-on wheels were 15 x 5.5".

    EDIT: I think I got that wrong. 1963-1966 standard steel wheels were 15 x 5.5", the knock-offs were 15 x 6", and in 1967 both the Rally wheel and the optional bolt-on were 15 x 6".

Original 63-64 steel wheels (GM # 3825686 or GM # 3834127) are 15" X 5 1/2" with an offset of 0.44". The backspacing measures almost 3 3/4". Original 63-64 wheels are very expensive ($649 for one wheel currently on Ebay). The replacement wheel (GM # 3838080) has a different rim cross section but is the same size and offset but the cost is a lot less.

The 1965-1966 steel wheels (15 X 5 1/2" with a 0.44" offset) and the 1967 rally wheels (15" X 6" with 0.06" offset) could also be used but all these wheels would be expensive. I have seen 15" X 6" steel wheels with 0.06" offset (stamped "DH", "DL", and "DJ" near the valve hole) from 1969-1971 Chevrolets also used on 1963-1967 Corvettes.

There is more information about 63-64 wheels in the archives.
