57 Wiring J Clips in Trunk & Clips for neutral safety Switch

I need some help from some of the 57 experts on the discussion board. I was checking my trunk for the J clips that are supposed to be mounted to the trunk lip for the rear wiring harness. Mine were removed in a prior life (thanks bubba!) and I need to replace them. Are the j clips rivited in place? If so, are they countersunk rivits? Does anyone have pictures and measurements for mounting or a template?

I also need pictures of the clips that run along the transmission mount crossmember for the neutral safety switch wiring. I haven't been able to figure out what type of clips are needed and how they attach to the crossmember.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul, this measurment will get you real close to where the 4 clips go.

For the first two locations for tail light harness wire clip locations, measure 8" inches from floorboard of trunk on each side UP to where ruler touches bottom inside edge of top curvature of trunk jam undersides.

For the last two clip locations on each side measure 3" inches which will be just past the point of no more flooring going towards back of car.

Rivits were soft alum. and pounded/pressed just below surface & sanded. Same medthod used like the trunk lid arm supports brackets/housings best as I can tell..........Some0ne may be able to explane further.

Tranny clips are same as the ones used for speedo & fire wall locations. You should be able to see where the holes were for old locations if possiable take a good drop light & shine thru fiberglass to see possable locations , that may help, good luck.

      Adam,

Thanks for the help, I used your measurements and found the holes (filled) in the trunk lip. Now I know where they should mount, am hoping someone will post photos of how they were mounted and the orientation of the clips. I am assuming that the clips are the same j clips used in the engine compartment. I know they are riveted, but want to see how they were installed at the factory. Was the rivet head visible or was it countersunk slightly and filled? Have set many rivets on this car, I'm actually looking forward to setting a few more this weekend (early morning before it gets too hot!)

Regarding the clips for the neutral safety switch wiring, I need to know what the clips look like that mount on the steel transmission crossmember. I see the crossmember has holes, but have no idea what fastener was used to secure the clips to the crossmember, or what the clips actually look like. AIM has a drawing that shows the clips and routing of wiring from the Neutral Safety switch, but no detail on the clips.

      Thanks in advance,

      Paul

Trunk rivets were flat heads, head up and peened on the bottom similar to other rivets. Heads were flush and left exposed, not filled, but painted over. Can't help on the trans rivets.

          paul,
orientation of trunk wire clips were open ended towards outside of car. there was a dab of bonding glue on my clips too. as far as trans mount clips, look under your dash & locate the clips that hold main wire harness in, thoes will be a good refrence for the clips you are looking for, good luck, Adam.
