Maybe this will help. My SB engine build date in Flint was July 3, 1967.

The casting dates on my heads below are 2 days apart, June 6th, and June 8th, 1967. It appears the heads were cast about a month before the engine assembly build date.

      Mark,

The build date on my '67 is January 11, 1967 (both on the Trim Tag and confirmed by the NCRS shipping data report). The original L79 small block engine pad with correct matching VIN # is stamped VI230HT (for December 30th, 1966). The engine block casting date is L276 (December 27th, 1966).

The left head is dated L26 (December 2, 1966) and the right head is dated L126 (December 12, 1966).

The aluminum intake manifold is dated 11 . 28 . 66 (date cast into the underside of the manifold)

The day the car was completed is not of relevance- the day the engine itself was assembled is the key. That's the date shown on the engine stamp pad.

The date of the components you mention must precede the engine assembly date, 1-2 weeks is very common.

            Mark,

As far as NCRS judging goes, the window is six months. Some of my engine components were 4 months prior to the date on the engine pad if I remember correctly.

                Mark,

I had originally made mention of the six month window in my post then later deleted it as it possibly confused the issue more than helped.

Be aware that the dates codes on heads and BBC intake manifolds are not judged.
