    Q's re Corvettes @ Carlisle

Planning on attending this summer -- fly in; rent a car. It's been 5 years so I'm soliciting suggestions. Previously, I used to arrive Thursday afternoons, and wander around while the sellers were unloading and setting up. Friday was my "serious" day, and by about noon Saturday I'd have had my fill of Corvettes, and would hit the road. Is this still a realistic strategy ?

Is the NCRS "Gallery" a sort of "show & shine", with no judging, and obviously no entrance fee ?

    Wayne;

Where had you been flying into?

Last year (our first), we made a trip of it by flying into Dulles, renting a car, then driving through Gettysburg to tour the civil war memorials and finding a hotel close by. On the return, we toured the new Air Museum near Dulles before leaving. we spent the night in a Hotel outside of Dulles at a reasonable cost too.

I've heard there are some NCRS'ers that set up RV's at some of the parks around Gettysburg and invite stopins for BBQ and Beer, etc.

NCRS Gallery - display of NCRS member cars from the various years - DelVal Chapter hosts the display

      strategy still holds true

The traffic coming off the Pike onto 11 in the morning seems to be worse than in years past.

          Hi Wayne
I get to the park by 7:00 am to avoid the traffic jams. I'm staying on Rt11 this year so it's not too far to go.
I'll be holding a T/A seminar either Friday or Saturday so stop by if you have time.

            Wayne,

That's a good strategy, after 2 1/2 days those big smokeys are working hard..

              Wayne,

A lot of effort goes into every NCRS Gallery Collection, in Corvettes at Carlisle. Our Activities Chairwoman & Judging Chairman have there hands full each year trying to find 22 examples (one for each class) to display. All of us at the Delaware Valley Chapter volunteer our time to help put on the display in hopes of spreading the word about what the NCRS is all about. Perhaps you'll find the time to visit our little "Show and Shine".

Awesome cars displayed there, some open hoods would be nicer though!

I do the Thursday afternoon to Saturday Noon plan as well. Works for me. I really like to see the arrivals and setup on Thursday afternoon. Friday is a great day. Everyone is set up but the crowds aren't as big as Saturday. By about noon on Saturday I've walked and seen enough. It is a great event.

Had the pleasure of having my 65 selected for the 2009 Gallery and it turned out to be the best time I ever had at Carlisle - plenty of people visit the Gallery, and many have questions about the cars. I met alot of great people and was proud to be a part of such a great display. Plus it it rains it was quite nice to be indoors.
I would think your spot on with your plans on how to get the best bang for your buck. I will have a car for sale under the roof all the way over to the right hand side, stop over and say hello. Enjoy

                          Hi Wayne,

My wife and I like to arrive Wednesday night for early arrival to the show early Thursday morning. I do this as I like to do the swap meet area before it gets picked over. I try to cross off as many of the things off my "to do list" Thursday and finish it off Friday. We have lots of time to see the cars in the NCRS Gallery (a must see in my books) and to walk around and see whatever else catches our fancy. Saturday is my wife's day - shopping at the outlet mall
In nearby Hersey. The Antique Automobile Museum is also in Hersey.

Yours has been my EXACT strategy for the past 8-10 years. The only deviation has been the weather which can be postcard perfect one day and horrific rain the next, so flexibility helps. I also mix in visits to Gettysburg every other year which keeps everything in perspective. I have noticed more of a polarization lately, with one side of the show primarily catering to newer models and the other side mostly die hard restorers. If you are a restorer and you show up Saturday, you probably got there too late.
Any word if the auction will be back this year? This was a welcome diversion.

Starting to get excited. I am driving my 65 ragtop from south Florida to Carlisle. Any other sunshine staters going ?
