    Mystery Plate on Hood

When I disassembled my '64 I found a metal plate attached to the underside of the hood near the passenger-side rear corner. This plate is 2-1/2" x 1" x approximately 1/32" thick and was attached with 2 phillips head screws. There was nothing stamped or etched on either side of this plate. Blackout had been applied over the plate and when removed there was no evidence of a decal. Does anyone have any idea of the purpose of this plate?
    Thanks-Doug

My guess it was the striker for an alarm system.
