    1965 C2 wiper motor

Just pulled the wiper motor off my 65 and on the end it is stamped 5044356 ASSY. Anybody know anything about this number? Service replacement?

    Thanks in advance.

where is the date found on the wiper motor?

    Re: 1965 C2 wiper motor

According to the notes that I took during the restoration (1980 to 1995) of my 1966 Corvette the wiper motor is stamped "5044602" which is correct for 1965-1967 Corvettes. There is also a "D-4904635" casting number as well as the number "64" inside a circle and the number "22" inside a circle. I assume the casting "64" is for the year 1964 and the "22" might be for the 22nd week of the year (???). I have always wondered if a wiper motor made in the 22nd week of 1964 would be an original 1966 part. Sometime between 1966 and 1979 the wiper motor in my 1966 probably was replaced with a junk yard wiper motor from an "early" 1965 Corvette (???). The lever is stamped "04".

The 2-digit casting year (inside a circle) is on the back side in the corner.

I also once had a very similar wiper motor that I removed from a 1960 Chevrolet (or maybe it was a 1960 Pontiac) back in July 1991 in a salvage yard in Ashburnham, MA, that was stamped "5044363" with a casting number of "4904635" as well as an encircled "60" (for 1960, I assume) and an encircled "6" (or maybe it was a "9"). The arm was stamped "97". I sold the wiper motor to a Corvette vendor at Corvette Carlisle back in the late 1980's.

According to my vintage Chevrolet parts catalogs in Gr. 10.150 the GM SERVICE part numbers for wiper motors are as follows:
1959 Chevrolet, GM # 4760468 which was replaced with 4759140 in May 1961.
1960 Chevrolet, GM # 4759140 which was replaced with GM # 4909107 in December 1961.
    1963-1963 Corvette, GM # 4909107.
    1961-1962 Chevrolet w/2 spd., GM # 4909107.

    According to the assembly manuals:
    1963-1964 Corvette, GM # 5044518
    1965-1967 Corvette, GM # 5044602

Does your "5044356" wiper motor look like a 1965-1967 Corvette wiper motor? What are the casting numbers on it? Is there a casting number "58" or "59" inside a circle?

Based on the stamped number "5044356" my EDUCATED GUESS is that your wiper motor might be from a 1959 Chevrolet. The casting numbers (in circles) on the back side should tell you the year it was made.
