    1975 VIN Certification Label

What did the VIN Certification Label look like on the driver's door of a 1975 Corvette? Was there a change from the "Blue" to the "White" Label in 1975? Did this occur during July 1975?

    Steven

1975 was last year for the "blue" label. It was 76 when it was changed to white. I can't say whether the change occurred in July or August, August being the first month for 1976 production.

Here's typical blue label. The photo is of poor quality but give you the idea.

      Tom,
Thanks for your reply. I thought that the Blue Label continued thru 1975, but what made me begin to question this was a current ebay add. There is a 1975, 13,000 mile car listed on ebay, with a build date of June 13, 1975 that had a "White" Label. If you follow the links from ebay to a collection of photos it shows the label.
The following is the photo link if you decide to explore deeper.

      Thanks again for your reply.
      Regards,
      Steve

        Tom,
Verification of the various year VIN and trim tags can be an issue for judging chairman at chapter meets. As in the case of anything after the midyears I have no clue.

I asked Roy Sinor about this issue at the Canadian regional and he agreed that the national has to provide a "quick reference" for judging verification to cover all the newer cars that many are not familiar with. I would assume photos and/or detailed verbiage as to description and positioning of tags on the various years will be explained.

So, be patient the information is coming.......

The M.F. Dobbins Fact Book for '73 - '77 Stingrays says the new design label started on the late '75 vehicles and used on all '76 - '77.

That brings up a point- it is well known that counterfeit VIN tag or repro trim tag will get an earlier car excused from further judging pending retification. Will the VIN cert labels fall under the same rules? It's not uncommon to see cars that had them painted over, scratched or removed during their past with only poor quality repros being available for 'restoration'.

              Mike -

I believe the key issue on bad trim tags is that it defines the car's as-built configuration (paint and trim color and build date on C3's, much more info on most midyear tags); however, the certification label on the door doesn't define the car's configuration at all - it only has the VIN.
