    66 fuel filter fit

I need to know how to get a sock filter to stay on the inlet tube of the fuel sending unit. I took a new unused one of a repop and it is sliding off my recently restored original. I have tried to tighten it by compressing with pliers but don't want to any further until I can find a spare locally in case I destroy it. Any tips?
    Thanks,
    Pete

Pete, measure the tube openings on the metal flange of the sock. Are they the same size? I don't have any of that import stuff around to compare too. If its slightly larger, consider making the hole smaller to have a force fit to the original pick up tube.

Its usually a thin cheap grade of stainless, a good welder can add some nibs perhaps witht he sock submersed so you don't put that on fire, it might be flexing too.

      Ron
I have been tinkering with a way to get it to fit, it is very close but just loose enough to think it could come off down the road sometime in the future.
I'm sure all these cheap sock filters are all made off shore now so I will keep playing with it until I get it tight enough not to worry about.
I took this unused filter off the better made repop sending unit from LIC (and that unit is better made with nuts on the pins than the typical press in pin junk on the market today. John Wolf restored my original sending unit so I'm sure it is a filter flange issue.
I will have this back in the Quanta tank today as it is a pretty close fit and just needs a little persuasion.
      Thanks for the input
