    Rear bumpers

The driver side rear bumper on my 65 convertible has 2 - 1/2" holes drilled completely thru about 3" apart on the lower vertical part closest to the license plate. The pass side bumper doesn't have any holes. Anyone know what they may have been used for? I bought the car with the bumpers installed so don't know if they are original or repops as I haven't looked for part numbers yet.
Can the from bumpers be interchanged with the rear bumpers?

    Re: Rear bumpers

Nick, the bumpers can not be interchanged. The extra holes were probably added by a prior owner, for what, who knows????????? It's not important as it would no be stock/original.

Any rear LH bumper from a 63 to a 67 should replace what you have. There are no part numbers on the bumpers as I recall.

      Nick -

The bumper with the holes in it was used on a car with a bolt-on trailer hitch. The front and rear bumpers are completely different.

At one time, there was probably a trailer hitch installed on this car and then the pass. side bumper was replaced.

Harry & Jim, I appreciate the responses. I knew they were there and they didn't bother me until my son & bro-in-law mentioned today when the were looking the car over. I was curious and probably won't do anything about them for now. Thanks guys! :

              John,
Thats how I came across my 63 coupe.
It was pulling a boat and jack knifed. It was totaled in 1971 because of that.
I think I still have the bolt on hitch.
