Re: '63 paint questions
I suppose all the other 63's have restored/repainted dash end tabs?
And here's a brand new 63 that has saddle interior. (picture taken in late 1962) The dash tabs are white, body color.
Oh, and did you happen to notice that you can not see any yellow w/strip adhesive on the RH door? Know why? Because when that adhesive was new, it was nearly clear!!! But no one seems to believe that either.Last edited by Michael H.; August 12, 2011, 12:12 AM.- Top

Re: '63 paint questions
Yesterday when I paint stripped and sanded the inside of the doors I noticed there was also interior Saddle colored paint under the door panels and there was paint on the doors on the sides (with some sort of goldish primer underneath, so opposite the door posts; not visible when the door is closed but visible with the doors are opened).Rob.

I wish I could help with the interior colors but both of my 63's are matching interior/exterior color cars.
Would be nice if some of the 63 guys here with non matching int/ext color 63's could shoot a bunch of pictures for you. I know there are a lot of these cars out there. C'mon guys... Rob needs a little help here.- Top

Re: '63 paint questions
Guys,
Sorry for being so late to the party, but attached are photos of the jambs on my fairly original '63 ermine white coupe with saddle tan leather interior.I believe them to be mostly untouched/original. Even though the exterior was repainted in the early '70s, I do not think that the jambs were repainted at that time. There have been some minor touchups as seen in the photos. The brownish staining appears to be from the weatherstripping.
Any comments as to original or not would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon- Top

Re: '63 paint questions
Yes, as Bob said the interior color is about 1 foot. There is no tape line at the end of the paint, it starts to look like over-spray.
Also, I found on some cars at 13.5 inches from the top a piece of the old style cloth electrical tape that hold the wires against the column. Has anyone else seen this?
Harry,
I had (have) the tape holding the wires as you describe. I'll check tomorrow if it's still there.

Re: '63 paint questions
Hello All,
My '63 column also has what appears to be black cloth tape just behind the sterring column support as shown in the attached photo and detail.
Rob, Michael - any comments on my post (#22) above? You asked for photos!
Regards,

Re: '63 paint questions
The tape looks like the typical cloth that was used in 63.
In the closeup picture, the light mist of tan overspray is visible on the steering column forward of the support.- Top

Re: '63 paint questions
Ran out to my garage to snap this photo - original '63 coupe door - silver-blue exterior, dark blue interior. Part of my "spares" inventory.
You can see clearly see the lines where the two colors intersected.
Hope this helps...

Re: '63 paint questions
On my 63 coupe when the carpet was removed one could see the outline of interior trim pieces that had been laid on the floorboards and painted in the car ( red in my interior). Assume that was done when car was built?
