    VIN tag rivets

    Hello;
    Friend asking me when they started "Roset rivets" on other than Corvette.
    He's considering a '70 Chevelle.
    Anyone able to provide information on when Rosets usage was started on Chevelle, Camaro, et al. ?
    Thank you.
    Ray

    Ray -

    Chevelle, Camaro, etc. used rosette VIN rivets for sure in 1966, and probably prior to that time.

      For Chevelles they started in 1965. But not all the plants used them. But by 1966 they all used them. You would have to go to team Chevelle and do and do a search

        Ray,

        My 1967 Chevelle has them, and I am pretty sure all the A-body plants were using rosette rivets then, so certainly a 1970 Chevelle should. But if you want the real scoop, as Keith said, go to Team Chevelle and post the question on the Tags section of their forum. Be prepared to tell them which plant built the 1970. Oh, and they love pictures over there. They post there just like here -- they use V-Bulletin also. There are some very knowledgeable Chevelle people over there, and some of them post here too.

        And the next question is to look at the rivets on the trim tag. They are not typical pop rivets, so be suspicious.

          Thanks Terry;
          I should have known how to spell "rosette". Blame it on pre July 4th celebration.

            I didn't even notice that Ray. I am using Firefox now days and it has a built-in spell check. That is just one of its many advantages -- but it doesn't like Chevelle and it doesn't catch corvette either.

              Hello Terry;
              I was really saying Thanks for the info. on the rosette rivets on your Chevelle.
              Didn't mean to sound sarcastic.

                Rosette rivets started being used at GM during the 65 model year. Most plants changed over on or about January of 65. Cars prior to the change over used round rivets. A friend has a 65 GTO which was built early 65 with a rivet of each style. By 1970 rosette rivets were used on all GM VIN plates. Make sure your friend is looking at the VIN plate not the trim tag which is attached to the cowl with two round tubular rivets.

                  Ray, I didn't take your post as sarcastic. I was just providing information in my comments about the FireFox spell check. I had no intention of denigrating your post.
