Air condition fan speed switch '65

Does anyone know if the fan speed switch on a '65 (with Air) is supposed to activate the compressor on all 3 speeds? On my car, I pull the air knob out and then turn the fan speed switch and the compressor will not engage until the fan speed is on the third position (high). The lowest speed and the middle position will blow, but the compressor doesn't engage. Is this normal for my car???

Hi John, I have a 66 AC car and in my car, the compressor runs on the first two speeds but when I turn it to high the compressor goes off. So maybe someone can help both of us. Thanks Terry

The compressor function is unrelated to the fan switch or its speed position; the compressor is energized by pulling out the "Air Cond-Pull" knob; the lever on the end of that cable closes the contacts in the switch mounted on top of the inside evaporator case, which connects 12V from the brown wire from the fuse panel to the green wire to the compressor clutch.

Thanks Mr Hinckley, I knew you would know. I'll try to trace the wires and find the problem. It does make total sense that the ac pull cable would control the compressor. I just hope I can resolve the problem without having to pull the dash.
        Thanks John,
        JC

Sounds like your problem is very similar to mine. It will take me 10 times as long to rectify as it would Mr. Hinckley. Gaining experience is a long hard road!
