Chrome Finish shown by Jay Leno

I just caught part of the show on SPEED called My Classic Car. Jay Leno was showing a coating to use on pot metal to replace the expensive rechroming process. From what I caught the part is dipped in this material. Does any body know more about this process and where to get the stuff.

I wish I could have see the whole presentation. The coating on TV looks just as good as chrome. Comments?

      Gene,
anything you see Jay Leno do in a video is available in the videos section of Jay's Garage.com
The link here may be the segment you saw on Speed. It depicts a spray on chrome process that looks to give a good result, but requires some good quality painting equipment.

Note there are comments below the segment and one of them says that the website for the product looks more like an April Fool's joke than a bonafide company's website.

Thank you for the reply's. I send off an e mail to get more info as to pricing and availability in the good old USA.

Appears the process is from Denmark.

I'll post what ever I get back..........

Pretty slick process, but I wonder about durability. I also wonder what the "metal" is and how it's suspended in solution.

Leno said it could work on mirrors, but the base coat would have to be clear.

No need to go outside the U.S. That process has been around for years. Saw it at SEMA years ago. There are many companies in the U.S. that sell everything you need. http://www.sprayonchrome.com/ and http://www.alsacorp.com/ are just two of them. The examples I've seen are easily distinguished from real chrome plating.

Well, It's been 3 days and I have not received anything from Denmark. I would expect the minimum of an e mail reply giving contacts in USA. Cross them off the list as "could care less if I get your business or not".

I will look closer at the USA producers shared on this web board. I HATE buying non American anyway!

I used the website in the Jay Leno tape. That gave the e mail address. I could swear they said Denmark. But either way the e mail address is what was stated.

I did a search on the company. It seems a non response to email is the norm for these guys.

Again, why not contact one of the many co.'s in the U.S. that handle this product?

                              Hi Gene,

If you want to see another demonstration of the process, look for the cable TV show called "Street Customs" (West Coast Customs' L.A. location) for the episode where they chrome-sprayed an Audi R8 belonging to Monster Cable for the "Tron: Legacy" movie premiere. (Here on Long Island, the show is broadcast on the Discovery HD Theater cable channel.) There are a number of short video excerpts of the car on the net, but you have to see the full program when they re-run it to see them do it. On the show, the guys from Creations n' Chrome sprayed the car using the Spectra Chrome product line (both US companies).

                              Save the wave!

                              Louis
