According to my 1979 Corvette Parts Catalog (June 1979) GM # 356971 is a L.H. muffler that is listed for 1975-1976 Corvettes as shown in Gr. 3.701. I do not have any Corvette parts catalogs from 1973 to 1978 so I can not tell if it is an original 1975-1976 part number but GM # 356971 is listed in my May 1976 Chevrolet Price Schedule at $65.50 so it did exist in 1976. What is the date code on the muffler?

GM #356971 is the original PRODUCTION and SERVICE part number for the left side muffler for 1975-76 Corvettes. In fact, it's the only SERVICE part number there ever was for the application being discontinued without supercession in July, 1996.
