67 vert-paint car on frame or off?

car is on a roll cart-should this be painted on the frame or cart? My thoughts would be off the frame but the shop wants this put back on the frame to finish the body work and then paint.

Finish the body work and then paint the body off the chassis. No point talking about the paint until the body work is done, right?

    Good luck.

The advantage of doing it on the frame, properly shimmed, is that you get no surprises when you place it back in the frame. All of you alignments, etc will be set before you paint it. It's how I would do it, but more work to then take it off again and do the frame afterward.

Do it properly and paint it off the frame. If the body shop is that concerned about alignment, have them just set it on the frame to finish the body work and then lift it to paint it. This has been discussed a lot. Check out these threads.

The alignment shouldn't be an issue if the body shop counted the body shims and intends to replace them as original. That's the way I've done all of my body off restorations. If you paint the body on the frame, you're going to have some overspray issues that would never come into play with the body off the chassis.

          Good luck.

Anthony is right. But you may need to play around with the shims a bit due to age and settling over the years. The original shimming is a good start. Using new rubber body mount pucks (aluminum front two on verts) are a bit taller than the compressed originals. Coupe door alignment due to shim placement is a bit easier than the verts. This is all assuming the same original frame is used and it's not welded on. If you are starting with a new frame I would start with no shims and then add as required to get doors fitting and body sitting square on frame.

My 67 is going to be painted off the frame, however they are going to put it on the frame during fitup. Once the body is perfect they are pulling it for paint. Then hopefully it will be awesome all the way around.
