I am rebuilding a 54 I have had for several years. The engine block is a 3835911 casting but not an orig corvette (F54YG) engine - it is stamped F54X. The waterpump is definately not 54 corvette. I purchased a correct pump but in trying to fit it I have noticed several problems. 1) the block has a freeze plug where the pump appears to take its water from. Not a real problem - freeze plugs come out. 2) The 54 pump appears to mount with 5 bolts; 4 that replace the old pump mounts (1 outside and 3 inside the 54 pump) and 1 on the lower right. Problem, my block does not have a place for the fifth bolt to thread into. Can I tap the block? Or should I stay with the old pump ?

Re: 54 waterpump - block compatibility
Pop out the freeze plug and tap the block then use lock tight on the bolt. You will enter the water jacket, I had the same issue. You must use the corvette water pump and base because it lowers the center line of the fan so it doesne hit the hood. Hope this helps- Top

Re: 54 waterpump - block compatibility
Guy - thanks for the feedback. Thats what I planned to do but I wanted to hear some feedback before I started drilling a hole in my block. PS: did you have any interferance with the timing gear cover ?- Top
