    Re: 63 wiper blade question

The 1966 CHEVROLET AIM lists 2 wiper blade part numbers: 3888296 (Anco) and 3899508 (Trico).
    In the revision box:
    8-18-65 ___3888296 was 3871085
    3-15-66____3899508 was 3882568

The 1966 CHEVELLE AIM lists 2 wiper blade part numbers: 3888296 (Anco) and 3887568 (Trico)
    In the revision box:
    8-28-65_____3888296 was 3871085

    3882568 is a Trico blade, 14 7/8" long
3866190 is a Anco blade, 15" long, which was replaced with the 3871085 Anco blade in Oct. 1966 as per Chev. Parts History. GM # 3866190 must be a service wiper blade as I can not find it in any of my many assembly manuals.

The deeper we go, the more confusing it gets.

Looks like we really need the original AIM page for the 66 Corvette. Too many early 66 Corvettes have the Trico to believe it was not used.

      I'll keep looking.

        Re: 63 wiper blade question

Trico and Anco wiper blades were installed on the 1966 and 1967 Corvette assembly lines even the the assembly manuals list only the Anco blade.

I have been trying to convince 1963 & 1964 Corvette owners for many years that Anco wiper blades (shiny type with the red plastic release button) were also installed on the 1963 & 1964 assembly line but someone "back in the old days" (the 1980's) apparently started a rumor that only Trico wiper blades were installed on the assembly line. Noland Adam's book shows a 1963 convertible w/75 on page 126 that CLEARLY has Anco wiper blades. I realize that the car is a prototype but I'm sure that Chevrolet continued using the Anco wiper blades throughout the production year along with Trico wiper blades as well. Chevrolet (and GM) always preferred two different suppliers for the same part so as to keep competitive prices and to always have a continuous supply. When supply stops the production line stops.

Okay...In my Corvette Parts Book I see in section 10.146 Part #3779741 for ANCO wipers @15 5/32" long.....Does this part still work on an early 63? (10/62)

            Thanks

              Gerald,

When I bought my early 1963 Split Window Coupe (#1450) in 1987 it came with shiny Anco wiper blades but obviously things can change over a period of 24 years. The 1963 Corvette Assembly Manual (Sect. 1, Sheet B22.00) lists the wiper blade part number as 3830603 and the drawing of the blade appears to be of an ANCO blade. My 1963 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1962) lists GM # 3819071 as the TRICO blade and GM # 3779741 as the ANCO blade as service parts for the 63 Corvette and 59-63 Passenger cars. Noland Adam's book, "The Complete Corvette restoration & Technical Guide - Vol. 2 1963 through 1967" has a photo on page 126 of a prototype or pilot-line 1963 convertible and the wiper blades on the car are definitely the ANCO type. I believe that the general opinion is that all 1963-1965 Corvettes were issued TRICO wiper blades on the assembly line but I have always believed that ANCO wiper blades were also issued on the assembly line as well. Chevrolet always seemed to want at least two vendors for a part for reasons of supply as well as competitive pricing. This TRICO/ANCO issue will never be resolved and at this point in my life it does not really matter.

                David,

So the judging on these blades can go either way, based on the judges experience and knowledge of the issue.

I would say that the judging of wiper blades for 1963 models would lean heavily on the TRICO blades, many even 100%. Since I was not on the 1963 Corvette assembly line at the age of 16 and was only in high school I never even looked at the wiper blades on a 1963 Corvette until the 1980's. Many things can change on a car in just a few years.
