1960 Tranny Linkage Quandary

Well, installing all the components on this thrice gone through tranny. BUT, in my anal analysis compulsive tendencies I have discovered there are many pictures of the reverse rod installed in two different ways-

- The clip side faces toward the tranny or it faces away toward the firlewall. I have it installed with the clip side facing the tranny. BTW, the linkage is after market from CC.

What is factory correct?

Have you tried both ways and, if so, which way does it work best? The way you have it looks right, but it's been years since I set one up.

At my age, I try not to do much under car work any more.

All of the Assembly Manual illustrations for '58-'60 show the rod on the inboard side, and the pretzel clip on the outboard side of the shifter reverse lever (like the photo below of a '59).

Thanks; as usual this is by far the best forum I have joined; hands down. And no BS kiddy stuff going on in this forum.

I will go with factory and it does fit a tad better. I was thinking with the rod and clip facing inboard the bend may be too close to the firewall. I originally installed with clip facing the transmission. Thanks again.

I hear you. I'm 56 and crawling around without stretching out first kicks the arthritus in gear. This Vette is a buddy's of mine; his wife was willed the car by her Dad; a General in the USAF (fighter jock). The bumper still has the one star and base decal on it. They have been very patient with this ground up resto, but I barely charged them as I have a love for this car knowing it was brought back from the dead and I believe the General is watching my every move!!!
