My buddies and I met and spent some time with a real interesting character at the recent Bloomington Gold: Bullet Bob and Thunder Buggy. Bob drives a 65 roadster that he ordered. The car has original knock-offs on that he paid $175 for shortly after his purchase. The car is equipped with a trailer hitch, luggage rack and several add-on gauges, levers and switches.
Before he took delivery he had the dealer remove all the chrome emblems and add two extra tail lights. Bullet Bob is a retired instructor of printing technology from Pennsylvania. He has more than 200,000 miles on Thunder Buggy and even took it on a fairy to Alaska, toured around up there and drove back on the Alcan Highway. He had never been on an organized road tour before, so he joined our little caravan of Mid Years for the 35-mile excursion.
One of the refreshing things about Bullet Bob is that he represents the truly unique and personal nature that this hobby presents for people. So, if you see a well-used blue 65 roadster at your next event, it just might be Bullet Bob.
