    Rear main seal _ 63

I just opened a FelPro 2 piece rear main seal package and there was a small white plastic bushing included. What is it for? (related to oil pump?)

Yes, it makes sense but this must be something new. I've never bought one that had the nylon retainer included. They probably finally figured out that when someone replaces the rear main seal they have to remove the oil pump and, when they do, the retainer often breaks from age and heat. Then, the guy working on the car has to go back down to the auto parts store to get the retainer. So, now they "head off" that return trip.

I posted the question too soon. Shortly after I posted, I turned the box over and red that the set includes part number 72665 which is an oil pump shaft retainer.

most of the time those plastic connectors were cracked from age after a few years.
