    3887588 & 6270159 Battery Clamps

Does anyone have an original 3887588 battery clamp that was used on 67 wo/AC and 68-71 models to compare with the 6270159 battery clamp that was used on 72-82 models? The 1383273 clamp may or may not have also been used on 72 and early 73 models. I am not sure if the 1383273 clamp was ever installed on the assembly line.

According to Chevrolet Parts History GM # 3887588 was replaced with GM # 1383273 in Nov. 1970 which was then replaced with GM # 6270159 in Jan. 1973.

According to the Camaro assembly manuals GM # 3887588 was replaced with GM # 6270159 on 5/5/71 as per the revision record so the 6270159 probably was not used on the assembly line until the beginning of the 1972 models.

Enclosed are photos of the very common 6270159 clamp that measures about 4 1/2" long with a width varying from about 1 3/16" to about 1 7/8".

Attached are photos of an original GM #3887588. This is the piece that was originally installed on my 1969.

      Thanks Joe.
I can see the minor differences when comparing it to my 6270159 clamp (stamped "B"). Finding an original 3887588 clamp will be a challenge. I need one for my 70 Camaro SS350 project but I have the rest of my life to find one. Is the 3887588 clamp about 4 1/2" long?
