    C1 radio blank plate

Just figured out that for my 57 the radio blank plate is not like the one pictured in Adam's Corvette Restoration guide, specifically not the star-burst but a single horizontal line. Found the photo in the new judging manual and it seems like a small chance of finding an original one. So..
    1) any one have close up photos maybe with a ruler so I can figure out the width and length of the bar and
    2) any one tired to convert a star-burst blanking plate to the horizontal line version. Possibly grinding the star-burst off then making the raised portion?
    3) any idea where to find those special type "Derby" washer nuts? They must have been used on something else made in larger numbers than corvettes!?

    Thanks

Find the late Dale Pearman's article on this topic in the Restorer.

Thanks, but I cannot seem to find nor open any of the restorer files via NCRS web site. Is it my lack of savy, my computer, or the web site? I am assuming that Restorer articles should be available to members?

the starburst is stamped steel, the straightline is diecast, if you try to grind on a starburst, you will ruin it, i'll dig out my stash and take some pics, the straightline was always harder to find, the starburst must have been the same as 55/56 chevy, the nuts you refer to are called 'Pal' nuts not too hard to find

agree with doug. both my radio delete 57's have the diecast block off plates. the nuts aren't difficult to find, its the "mushroom" washers that are difficult to find. my 57 210 post FI radio delete plate is stamped steel. it didn't have the mushroom wawshers, just a flat washer and pal nut.mike

Ken, someone the past year has advertised reproductions of the single bar blockoff plate. As I recall it may not be 100% but it is probably easier modifying it than a starburst. I believe I saw it in The Restorer or The Driveline.

                        Ed,

Still on a quest to find out what the part number 3707868 is. Possibly it's the "over the counter" part number for the die cast radio block off plate blue print drawing number 3706916.

Joe Lucia regularly points out the OTC part number and the AIM part number often differ for the same part.

Ken Kayser advises there's no blue print drawing for 3707868 in his file. Ken also says that 3714216 is the blue print drawing number for the straight line stamped radio block off plate.

                        FWIW,

Could be Gary, I have no further info other than what the P&A says. The mystery continues.

Anybody know of a 53 to 55 that did NOT come originally with a radio.

                            Gary,

I talked to Dick Bennett of Iowa a couple of years ago at Kissimmee re tooling he has for the die cast straight line plate. IIRC, it is original tooling, not in useable condition, but I'm wondering if it might have a p/n on it or if he might have other documentation. Just a thought.
