The difference is pretty dramatic.. I had the off road option on my 1963 (from Allens) and have the standard mufflers on my 1965... Big difference in the sound. On the small block the off road Allen's system was actually pretty nice. I liked the sound personally...

The sytems are really sensitive to the size and perofrmance of the motor. I have the N-11, with my 340hp cam it's real quiet. With my hotter old cam the exhaust was much louder. Sounded like a BB.

I can see how the BB would be pretty noisy with an off road system.

Something must have changed in the world of reproduction muffler manufacturing. Quite some time ago I talked with both the owner of Corvette Central and Mike Allen. I told them that I didn't think that their respective mufflers really sounded like the originals. Both of them told me that the internal configuration of their mufflers was not the same as original. I recall those conversations distinctly. But, like I say, that was quite some time ago. So, maybe things have changed now.

I will say this: for a muffler to have the exact same sound as originals, EVERY feature of the of the original mufflers has to be EXACTLY duplicated. In this sense, a muffler is like a violin------there are a lot of violins that LOOK LIKE a Stradivarius, but they don't SOUND like a Stradivarius.
