    Exhaust too loud for me!

Since 69s only came with 2" exhaust systems and I did not want to neuter my 11:1 big block, I installed an Allen's 68 system and went with the off road muffler option. Now I find the car too loud. Can anyone quantify the noise difference between the standard and off road mufflers? Is it dramatic? Thanks

Mike, I think cc is the only one out there with the correct N11.

      Mike,

The difference is pretty dramatic.. I had the off road option on my 1963 (from Allens) and have the standard mufflers on my 1965... Big difference in the sound. On the small block the off road Allen's system was actually pretty nice. I liked the sound personally...

Have NOS '68 N-11 mufflers on our '72. Not real loud. Some of the aftermarket systems are quite a bit louder.

There was really VERY little difference in sound level of the ORIGINAL standard exhaust versus the ORIGINAL N-11 (However, N-11 was not an option for 1969 or later).

All of the aftermarket "reproduction" exhaust systems that I am familiar with do not use the same INTERNAL configuration of the mufflers as original mufflers for either the standard or N-11. Gardner might, but I can't say one way or the other. All of the "reproduction" systems I've seen, either standard or N-11, have a louder exhaust note than original systems and the N-11 systems are MUCH louder.

Waldrone makes the muffler for corvette centrals N11 system, they (CC) sell it in the welded system,I was told the muffler from waldrone has the same internal baffles as original N11

I just installed the CC N-11 on my 63 and it is very nice and not too loud. I find it a little throatier than the stock system while still being able to carry on a conversation or listen to the radio. My car sounds like I want it to now.

How would the CC N11 judge for a 71? I guess I am asking if the muffler's external appearance is the same as the stock CC system, and is there any performance increase?

I agree with the part about originals having little sound difference. CC must have gotten the baffles correct because I really can't tell any difference between their repro N-11's and stock mufflers. This is on a 427/400. Actually, I was hoping they would be louder.

I would have thought there would be a nice difference, good to here from someone that has had both to compare.

Thanks! The difference in sound was so unnoticeable that I contacted CC to see it they had made a mistake on the order. They sent me pics of the N-11 muffler that showed a larger seam that matched mine. The video on their website is very misleading; it's a pretty heavily modded 67. Even so, I can't believe it's the same muffler on the car in the video vs. the one they're selling. Anyway, I notice no differnece in the sound. There is a difference in the carb adjustments, though, because of the mufflers. Go figure.

Thanks everyone, I called Allens and they said that there N11 mufflers have identical internal construction to the originals. I will buiy the non N11 mufflers.
