    1972 frame stencil information

I own a 1972 LT-1 Convertible vin 1Z67L2S514474, built on February 21, 1972. Once the body came off and a bit of dealer's undercoating (New York car) I found the original stencil on the passenger side of the frame. The stencil is upside down and located 3 5/8 inches forward of the #1 body mount and about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the rail. The numbers measure 3/4 inch in height. It reads
6263620-131 with the date below 1-20-72. Please see attached photo. Duff

I scraped the undercoat off with a putty knife until I could see the outline of the stencil, then sprayed carburator cleaner across the area and wiped, continued this process till the stencil was completely visible. The last spray and wipe began to fade the stencil, so that was the final treatment. Does anyone know who has a stencil machine, I would love to replace the frame stencil when I get my frame back. Thanks

I had the good fortune as well. All I had to do was wash the dirt off of my stencil and, there it was. This is on a '71 with a build date of December 14, 1970. It's a California car originally.

Duff - Quanta has the frame stencil. Talk to them about your situation and they'll be of help. They sell a complete frame restoration kit, including all the paints, stencils and grease pencils and instructions you'll need for frame detailing.

I would suggest you send a detailed photo of your stencil to them so they can make one just like the original. I had some discussion with them a few years back and there seemed to be some confusion there about correct character size, etc. Quanta was/is good to work with.
