    dash light bulbs

What is the correct bulb # for the 1957 dash lights, particularly the speedometer. Mine seem dim although I think they are working. Maybe I don't have the right bulb.

Should be listed in the owners manual if you have one, The AIM shows only two bulbs being used , GM 127934, or 131282, noted as X and Y to show locations of each in the AIM, section 12, sheet 12. The 127934 cross references to a #57, and the 131282 crosses to a #53 bulb.

      Ted -

The bulb chart on page 80 of the '57 Owner's Manual shows them as #57.

        Ted,

#57 is correct. I don't know how old your bulbs are, but light output decreases over time. As the filament slowly burns away, it deposits the metal on the inside of the glass, turning it blackish.
Also the lens in the instruments deteriorate over time, and get dirty as well, limiting the amount of light transferred.

Try new bulbs, or you may have to dissemble them and do a Mr. clean.

Cleaning the terminal in the socket would not hurt anything either

make sure you have the dimmer switch (headlight knob) turned up all the way
